Horseback Riding

Saddle up for a journey back into the Old West and enjoy the majestic views of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains on horseback. Trips are available for all levels of riding ability and include options from hourly rides to half-day trips. With thousands of acres of meadows, trails and woodlands in Breckenridge and the surrounding area, visitors can explore the Colorado countryside with some of the land’s most amazing creatures.

Platte Ranch: Situated approximately 40 minutes from the town of Breckenridge, Platte Ranch offers a true Western ranching experience. Experienced guides take the lead, offering expert advice in riding techniques yet still giving each guest the freedom to advance at their own pace on the horses with no nose-to-tail trail rides. Families have the option to engage in a two-hour, half-day or sunset dinner ride at the Platte Ranch. Visitors will surely mark this experience down as one of their favorites!

Gore Range Outfitters: With no more than 12 riders in each group, Gore Range Outfitters provides an unparalleled experience for riders when embarking through the Colorado mountainside on horseback. Visitors will see a wide variety of scenery, such as wildflowers, rivers and forests in one-hour trips, two-hour trips or a half-day trip with a picnic lunch.

Breckenridge Stables: Located only minutes away from Grand Timber Lodge, Breckenridge Stables offers guests a convenient afternoon activity in the backdrop of the Tenmile Range. Families can enjoy an hour-and-a-half riding trip together or improve their riding technique with a group or a private lesson.

Rusty Spur Ranch: This fantastic service offers a variety of experiences for our guests. Riders can bring the whole family for a one-, two-, or three-hour ride on a 10,000-acre working cattle ranch. In addition, for those visitors with a little more ambition, Rusty Spur is the place to be! Sign up for a four-hour actual Western cattle drive and enjoy lunch with the ranchers, or test your abilities with the hour-and-a-half outlaw ride, where a riding test is required.

Two Below Zero: Take in the breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains with an old-fashioned wagon ride topped off with a western-style family dinner. Before dinner, don’t forget to engage in some family fun at the game corral, playing roping games, horseshoes, cowboy golf and bean bag toss. After a snack of biscuits and honey, the dinner bell will set off the evening with a BBQ family cookout and a Wild West show featuring the Jackman Brothers.
